An overview of the NASA Sounding Rocket Program is presented. The program has launched a total of 1912 rockets representing 30 types of vehicle configurations. Payloads have been primarily directed to the disciplines of magnetodynamics, solar physics, stellar and planetary astronomy and meteorology. The vehicles, launching sites, and launching techniques used in the program are described, and the pointing control systems and command links developed in the course of the program are discussed.
