The modified Stromgren uvby filter system, which has been used to investigate the spectrophotometric evolution of elliptical galaxies, is also found to be a powerful tool for the determination of stellar parameters in elliptical galaxies, especially metal content and the stellar type of the dominant population. Here, an introduction to the behavior of the filter system is presented, based on comparison to stellar libraries, and the results are examined, with attention to composite systems (globular clusters, spirals, and ellipticals).
