Several models for the formation of clusters of galaxies with different initial conditions are presented: spherical collapse models, a steady infall model and a collision model. For each of these models the evolution and the phase space distribution of the virialized state was investigated. It is shown that the phase space distribution in the virial equilibrium still contains information on the different types of initial conditions.
