The question as to whether instantaneous mass loss affects the remaining, relaxed bound system structure is addressed through N-body collapse calculations, with and without mass loss. The calculations have determined that: (1) the amount of mass that can be lost while leaving an appreciable bound remnant is much larger than has been predicted by simple analytical models; and (2) within statistical uncertainties, the object remaining after mass loss possesses structural and dynamic characteristics that are virtually identical to those of a relaxed object that has collapsed without mass loss.
