Petrological, X-ray and chemical analyses of the Muzzaffarpur nickel-rich ataxite show that it consists mainly of kamacite and taenite and minor schreibersite. The relative amount of kamacite in the meteorite increases in the interior of the meteorite. The change in the chemical composition of the meteorite during heating in the laboratory showed that as the temperature increases the meteorite oxidises forming minerals similar to trevorite and hematite at 1000°C.
