We describe the MUSYC (Multiwavelength Survey by Yale-Chile) project, a 1-square-degree optical-infrared survey to AB limiting depths of U,B,V,R=26.5 and K=22 (K=23.5 in the central 10'x10' region of each field), with extensive follow-up spectroscopy. The project comprises four fields of 30'x30' each, two equatorial and two in the South, chosen for low background and to leverage existing ground- and space-based multiwavelength data, including HST, Chandra, XMM, and mid-infrared (Spitzer). Ground-based imaging has been completed and deep follow-up spectroscopy (up to R ˜ 25) with VLT+VIMOS, Magellan+IMACS and Gemini+GNIRS (up to K ˜ 20) is currently underway. The survey fields will be a natural choice for future observations with ALMA.
The broad science goals of this survey range from studies of Brown and White dwarfs in the halo of the Milky Way using proper motions, to a census of accreting supermassive black holes at 0
