I will discuss and interpret Spitzer observations of nearby brightest cluster galaxies (BCGs) in cool core clusters, including Abell 2597. The Spitzer photometry provides information about the mid-infrared SED, which shows a significant amount of star formation in these sources. To fit the SED, we require an early-type spectrum and a nuclear starburst model, from Siebenmorgen & Krugel (2007). We compare the star formation rates inferred from the mid-IR to those estimated from H-alpha and UV continuum and find that they are consistent. Whether these stars condense from gas which was formerly hot intracluster medium (ICM) however, is yet to be determined. The presence of nearly typical dust seems to preclude the hypothesis that the star-forming gas originated as hot ICM. I will review future work that remains to be done, both theoretical and observational. Donahue acknowledges support of from JPL contract 1268128 and a NASA-LTSA award NNG-05GD82G.
