Recent theoretical and experimental developments in the X-ray spectroscopy of multiply charged ions in high-temperature astrophysical and solar plasmas are briefly reviewed. In particular, attention is given to the main stages of the X-ray spectroscopy of hydrogen and helium-like ions, including experimental acquisition of the spectra or their images and their primary processing (deconvolution), spectrum identification, and theoretical analysis and physical interpretation of the data obtained. Some problems in theoretical spectroscopy are also discussed, including the calculation of atomic constants, calculation of X-ray spectra on the basis of different models of a radiating plasma, and development of methods for plasma diagnostics.
