Scientific paper

This paper reviews previous observations of the multiple systems Wolf 629/630, Mu Her BC, CM Dra ABC, Alpha Cen, 95 Cet AB, and ADS 16644. All these systems contain low-luminosity dwarfs or degenerate stars, and all except Mu Her BC, 95 Cet AB, and ADS 16644 involve flare stars. Parameters of the different systems and components are discussed and compared. It is suggested that there may be at least three sources of flare activity on late-type dwarfs and that the flare-star status of Proxima Cen may be a consequence of the star's low mass.
