The blazar BL Lacertae experienced one of its brightest flares yet observed during the summer of 1997. We present data taken from optical observations taken at the SARA Observatory and McDonald Observatory in July of 1997. We analyzed the broadband spectral variations of BL Lac during the outburst, especially noting the variability in the spectral slope. Our results are compared to the spectral variabilities observed in previous BL Lac outbursts.
