After taking into consideration several selection effects in the present three-color surface photometry study of 20 Markarian Seyfert galaxies, it is noted that the host galaxies have typical central surface brightness, scale lengths, and colors, similar to those of normal spiral galaxies. Yet, in comparing the luminosity distribution of the underlying galaxies with that of normal galaxies, there is a marginal suggestion that the Seyfert phenomenon preferentially occurs in the brighter spiral galaxies and much bluer nuclear continua. In comparing these properties with quasars, it is found that both Seyfert 1's and quasars have parent galaxies of similar luminosity, and the two classes form a continuum of nucleus-to-galaxy ratios in which quasars have the relatively more luminous nuclear components.
