Knowing the large-scale structure in the distribution of galaxies is extremely important for understanding the galaxy formation and evolution of the universe. Recently, many authors have adopted the method of fractal dimension to analyse the features of the large scale distribution of galaxies. Their results show that there is a multi-level distribution of galaxies. In this paper, the authors try to use the catastrophe theory to explain the multi-level feature in the distribution of galaxies.
