Extragalactic radio sources with extreme spectra (e.g., emission increasing with frequency above 10 GHz) are a potentially troublesome source of foreground noise in searches for temperature and polarization fluctuations in the cosmic microwave background. They are also intrinsically interesting: such sources are likely to be the youngest or most recently activated AGN.
Maps of linear polarization at milli-arscec (roughly parsec) scales reveal physical properties and morphologies of the sources. Our multi-frequency polarization images allow us to disentangle morphological effects from Faraday depolarization, and hence to determine magnetic field alignment and rotation measure. We report preliminary results from 4 extreme sources, showing both polarization and spectral index images based on VLBA observations at 8, 15 and 22 GHz.
