The second generation of the Medium Scale Anisotropy Measurement (MSAM2) incorporates a new five channel, single-mode bolometric detector system into the same balloon-borne, stabilized platform and 1.3 meter off-axis Cassegrain telescope used in the first three flights of MSAM. The first flight of MSAM2 occurred on June 1, 1997 and performed several observations of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) as well as planet calibrations on Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn. The large chopper throw (150(') ) and small beam size (FWHM~ 20(') ) of this telescope allow for many estimates of the anisotropy above and below the expected first Doppler peak in the CMB angular power spectrum. The bolometric detector system is cooled to 100 mK using an ad iabatic demagnetization refrigerator and has 5 channels operating between 65 and 170 GHz (1.8-4.6 mm), near the galactic foreground minimum. A second flight of MSAM2 is planned for the summer of 1998. The MSAM/TopHat collaboration is also preparing for the first flight of the TopHat-Spinner in December 1998. The TopHat-Spinner is a five channel, multi-mode bolometric detector system coupled to an on-axis Cassegrain telescope that resides on top of a balloon during a 7-10 day long duration balloon flight around Antarctica. Some preliminary results from MSAM2 and anticipated results from TopHat-Spinner will be presented.
