The sensor technology group of the DLR - Institute of Planetary Exploration and Space Sensor Technology is developing specific imaging instruments for planetary and other scientific space experiments. At the Rosetta Lander (ROLIS) and the High Resolution Camera of Mars Express (HRSC-SRC) a new concept of the sensor electronics have been developed which runs under the acronym MOSES (Modular Sensor Electronics System). MOSES is a 3-D miniaturised CCD- sensor-electronics which is based on single modules. Each of the modules has some flexibility and enables a simple adaptation to specific requirements of the imaging system. MOSES is mainly designed for space applications where high performance and high reliability are required. However, the concept can also be used in other science applications where low noise, small volumes and harsh environments are required. The presentation describes the concept of MOSES, its characteristics, performance and new developments for future missions.
