MOSES (Acronym for "Molecules in the Outer Space and in the Earth's Stratosphere") is a proposed, Swedish satellite for combined astronomical and atmospheric submillimetre observations. The project is currently in a study phase with the aim of getting a project approval at the end of 1991. The main astronomical objective is to perform detailed studies of the chemistry and physics in a few selected sources by observing lines from key species and by spectral scans of limited spectral regions. Data from the satellite will be combined with data from ground-based submm telescopes, such as SEST. The satellite concept includes a three-axis stabilized 1 m-class telescope equipped with SIS- and Schottky receivers and a launch on a Pegasus vehicle into a low Earth polar orbit around 1995.
