A catalogue of 382 H II regions of the spiral galaxy NGC 2997 has been drawn from the analysis of H-alpha plates obtained through a 16 A bandwidth filter with the 3.60 m ESO telescope. Their distribution size and intensity are discussed; one result is that the longer arm shows the more compact and brilliant H II regions, indicating a difference in physical conditions between the two arms. Furthermore two interferograms, in H-alpha light, made it possible to draw a rotation curve of the galaxy and to compute its mass as between 3.5 x 10 to the 10th and 3.8 x 10 to the 10th solar masses within the optical limit of 3 arcmin. Finally arguments are given favoring the excitation of the hot spots by very massive stars.
