The morphological features of spotless flares as observed by three Chinese observatories (Yunnan, Purple Mountain, and Beijing) during the peak years of the 21st solar cycle are summarized. On the basis of the Kippenhahn-Schlueter model of solar prominences, these observed features are qualitatively interpreted and a possible theoretical model of generating spotless flares is proposed.
