Blue spectra and absolute UBV photometry of the peculiar emission-line object RX Puppis are analyzed. More precise velocities for various ions and some information about the structure of the hydrogen envelope are derived from the better-defined line profiles. The results show that since 1976 the Balmer lines have been transformed from broad variable P Cygni profiles into fairly stable emission lines, that the radial velocity of the central star is plus 30 km/s, and that the luminosity of the star has decreased by 0.93 mag since 1976. It is concluded that the physical conditions in the hydrogen envelope have apparently been constant for the last two years. The possible nature of RX Puppis is briefly considered.
