Deep CCD images in the I band show a limiting magnitude for Cygnus X-3
of greater than 20.3m; when this is combined with measurements of H and
K it indicates an absorption of 28.7m. This is compatible with a greater
distance to the source with a consequent increase in the already high
X-ray and gamma-ray luminosities.
