The de Oliveira et al. (1985) model is used to predict the properties of the strong radiation pulse in the optical, X-ray, and gamma-ray domains that results from the collapse of neutron stars and white dwarfs in rapid mass-loss phases. The calculations indicate that the distinct temporal behavior of the pulses in different spectral regions permit the observational discrimination of various collapsing star models. Attention is given to the unresolved character of the gamma-ray burst sources of Klebesadel et al. (1973).
