The Near Infrared Mapping Spectrometer (NIMS) remote sensor aboard Galileo combines imaging and spectral capabilities, and is being used to find new hot spots and to map Io's surface composition. NIMS results are presented from the first four Galileo orbits of Io; hot spot areas and temperatures have been calculated by fitting the spectral data to a simple one-temperature black body.
