We have conducted a series of laboratory experiments to study the adsorption and recombination of atomic hydrogen and deuterium on surfaces relevant to the interstellar medium. Two atomic beams, one of deuterium and the other of hydrogen , are sent onto a cold surface ( ~5-16K). The amount of HD coming from the surface is monitored using a quadrupole mass spectrometer. Thermal desorption spectra are collected to obtain the order of the desorption kinetics. The recombination coefficient has been determined at different coverages and sample temperatures and is compared to existing models in the astrophysics literature.
