The authors present deep gunn r and gunn z CCD images of HH 52, 53 and 54 and high spatial resolution H2 maps covering HH 52, HH 53 and the bright HH 54 nebulosity. Clumpy H2 emission is seen in all three HH objects with a generally similar distribution to that of the visible emission. The morphology is discussed in terms of existing models of bipolar outflows. HH 53 is found to have a jet like appearance reminiscent of those described by Mundt. HH 54 appears bipolar and morphologically similar to the HH 1/HH 2 system. Spatial differences between the H2 peaks and visible emission peaks are particularly pronounced in HH 54. These are interpreted as being caused by differential absorption occurring in shocked cloudlets in the stellar outflow. Possible exciting sources have been identified for HH 52 and HH 53 but in the case of HH 54 no obvious source is present.
