We discuss the properties of dense interstellar clouds in the low-metallicity environment of the Magellanic Clouds, based on CO, C(+) and infrared observations. In this environment, radiation dominates the physical processes, leading to a significant variety in the appearance and properties of the molecular cloud complexes. The importance of high-freqency observations possible from Antarctica will be put in the context of using Magellanic Cloud conditions as a template for observations of star-forming galaxies at high redshift.
