The abundances of CO, OH, and H2CO are determined for a sample of high-latitude molecular clouds. In spite of the low average extinction of these objects (Av ≡ 0.6 mag), which is similar to the extinction in the diffuse molecular clouds identified via UV absorption lines, the high-latitude clouds show abundances similar to those of the dark molecular clouds, where the gas phase chemistry is substantiallay different. The N(H2)/WCO ratio is determined from the CO and extinction data and produces individual cloud values ranging from 1×1020 to 6×1020 molecules cm-2K-1(km s-1)-1. Possible explanations for the enhanced molecular abundances in the high-latitude clouds with respect to the diffuse molecular clouds are outlined.
