Results are presented for an investigation by Moessbauer spectroscopy of samples of lunar soils collected by Luna 16 from the northeastern region of Mare Fecunditatis and by Luna 20 from a highland region near the crater Appolonius C. The data are correlated with other Apollo and Lunar soil data available in the literature. The bulk soils returned by Luna 16 and Luna 20 are found to exhibit a number of differences from those returned from Apollo 11, 12, 14, and 15. The ilmenite content of Luna 16 soil is higher than that for Apollo 12, 14, and 15, but less than that for Apollo 11 soil. The ilmenite content of Luna 20 soil is exceptionally low. Luna 20 soil contains less glass than Luna 16 soil. Both soils indicate an increased distribution of iron in olivine + M1 pyroxene sites. No troilite, magnetite, or any oxidized Fe(+) species are detected in these samples.
