Neutron Stars, Neutrino Processes

Scientific paper

The modified URCA process (n+N ->p+N+e+ν, p+N+e ->n+N+ν, where N is nucleon) that produces efficient neutrino energy losses in neutron star cores is shown to go via neutron and proton branches (N=n and N=p) of comparable rates. The factors R_N_(T/T_cp_) are calculated which describe reduction of the modified URCA reactions by the proton (singlet-state pairing) superfluidity with critical temperature T_cp_. The reduction R_N_(T/T_cn_) by the neutron (triplet-state pairing) superfluidity is also calculated at TN+N+ν+ν) are calculated in the case of proton superfluidity at T
