Dispersion interferometry from a satellite can be used for investigating transient phenomena in the ionosphere. It is shown that both the Doppler effect and effects from the steady-state ionosphere can be cancelled by supplementing a standard dispersion interferometer with an interrogation channel, a device for changing the sign of a frequency shift, and a specific beat pattern. The examined instrument system may be used for studying transient phenomena (ionospheric fronts, wave propagation, isolated excitations), measuring satellite and rocket accelerations, and determining gravitational redshifts.
