Steady-state models of axisymmetric uniformly rotating magnetic stars with poloidal magnetic fields (of quadrupolar or dipolar structure) and with self-consistent thermally-driven circulation fields are constructed. Distinctions between a slowly decaying 'fossil' field and a field being maintained by dynamo action are sought. The periodic variation of the effective magnetic field (and sign alternations), dynamic stability, field topology, magnetic braking of circulation, nonzero meridional circulation in steady state, freezing of field lines, centrifugally dominated models and purely poloidal fields, and models accounting for magnetic forces are discussed. An increase in observable flux as a star approaches a thermally steady state is predicted.
