On the basis of the CN and C2 comae isophotes for the comets 1961 IX and 1970 16, the distributions, scale heights and mean lifetimes of CN and C2 have been derived. The isophotes were obtained from the narrow-band photometric observations of Rahe et al. (1976). The derived molecular distributions are discussed within the framework of current theory concerning the physical chemistry of comets.
