A model simulating outgassing in the Venus interior is developed on the basis of the Ozima and Podosek (1987) model of Ar outgassing in the terrestrial mantle and crust, using data on the isotopic composition of atmospheric argon. In the Venus model, the potassium content in Venus's crust is calculated to be less than 0.5 mass pct, and the escape of Ar into the atmosphere takes place as a result of a catastrophic degassing scenario and is nearly complete within the first 0.5 billion years. It is shown that the model is self-consistent only for the case when the volcanic flux on Venus is low (1-10 cu km/year).
