A mathematical model is presented for perturbations of large-scale ionospheric fields due to solar flares on Ez variations near the earth surface at high latitudes. It is shown that the contribution of a magnetospheric source to the diurnal Ez variations can reach 50-55 percent of the contribution of UT variations of the ionospheric potential. The asymmetry of the diurnal variation of Ez changes not only as a function of magnetic activity and latitude but also as a function of the longitude of the observatory.
