To improve the knowledge of high speed flows, wakes, chemistry modeling and Mars atmosphere entry, a generic axisymmetric orbiter configuration is studied. In this paper efforts are focused on the grid definition as it is shown to play a primordial role onto the flow field prediction especially in view of radiation modeling. Other aspects looked at are the thermodynamics of the flow, the chemistry definition and the wall properties (catalicity effects).
