By comparing galaxy formation models within the ΛCDM cosmology with available data on high redshift galaxies, we show that small galaxies , with stellar masses <1011Msolar, are formed too early, are too passive since z~3 and too old at z = 0. This is due to an overproduction of small galaxies at high redshift, visible also as an excess of ZAB~27 V-dropouts. We discuss the consequences of this excess.
