The technique and the results of calculations of model light curves for Algol-type binaries are described, which account for the influence of a semi-transparent circumstellar gas filling the critical Roche lobe. It is shown that the combined effect of screening of stellar radiation by gas and the contribution of the circumstellar shell to the total luminosity of a binary will lead to an appreciable broadening of the secondary minimum and distortion of the measured ratio of the luminosities of the components. The neglecting of these effects results in an overestimate of both, the luminosity and the radii of subgiant secondaries.
