This paper proposes a new method for deconvolving gamma-ray spectra in a model independent manner. The advantages of this algorithm are that the required computation is easy, quick, intuitive, and accurate. The disadvantage is that the spectral resolution is typically equal to the FWHM of the detector's photopeak. Essentially, the method sacrifices high frequency information about the source spectrum and gains certainty in the deconvolution. Such a method should not be used for line studies, but is ideal for continuum studies. In brief, the algorithm bins the observed count spectrum to some optimal resolution (whereupon the detector response matrix can be inverted with certainty) and the source spectrum is determined by a multiplication with the inverse of the response matrix.
