The Walker and Southwood (1982) testing of magnetic field models for momentum balance and flux conservation holds that the Beard (1979) magnetotail model does not satisfy flux conservation requirements. This judgment is based on an error in the introduction of the model into the analysis routines. The Beard model differs from the others tested in that it does not contain distributed currents in the bulk of the magnetosphere dipolar region.
