Mixing processes which can occur in a star, and why the effective diffusivity resulting from these processes is a weakly varying multiple of the kinematic viscosity are discussed. It seems unlikely that a single transport mechanism can account for the neutrino flux, the lithium depletion, and the internal rotation of the Sun. For mixing in the inner core, the two mechanisms which can not be ruled out are the 3He instability and gravity-wave mixing. The Li depletion and 3He enhancement at the solar surface indicate real mixing in the outer core, possibly due to shear instabilities. It is hard to explain the low rotation rate of the interior with any of the proposed mixing mechanisms, especially in the evolved part of the core, but only a weak magnetic field is sufficient to exert the internal torques needed to keep the Sun rotating almost uniformly.
