The influence of a finite Mach number on the acceleration of relativistic particles by stationary adiabatic mixed shocks is investigated assuming nonrelativistic hydrodynamics. The general properties of the structure function corresponding to the shocks are discussed. The spectral index of the distribution of the relativistic particles behind the shock is calculated and the different solution classes are selected. A critical value Delta(c) of about 50 is found for the pressure jump through the shock. The findings for Delta greater or less than Delta(c) are described.
