Minority representation in astronomy is still discouragingly low. There are some successful programs which have bucked the trend and have encouraged minority scientists onward to reach their career goals. The reasons for low minority representation in astronomy and possible strategies to improve this situation will be discussed. Copies of this article, which is a revised version of an article which I wrote for Mercury, will be available for distribution.
