Preliminary results of a mineralogical analysis of the Bocaiuva iron meteorite are reported. The analysis was carried out using a crystal electron spectrometer with a beam size of 1 micron, and an accelerating voltage of 15 kV. The iron in the meteorite contains silicate inclusions which are surrounded by kamacite of 6.5 wt percent Ni. The metal shows a Widmanstatten pattern in areas devoid of silicates. Silicate inclusions occur as nodules or as irregular chain-like aggregates in which olivine is either rounded or faceted. Iron sulfide in Bocaiuva occurs as pyrrhotite and contains 1-2 percent wt percent Cu. Questions concerning the genetic relations between the silicates, sulfide and metal are discussed, and a brief thermal history of the whole meteorite is given on the basis of the mineralogical data.
