The mineralogy and petrology of the Haiti Cretaceous/Tertiary section
are studied in detail in order to elucidate the origin of the Haiti
layer. The five major constituents of each section are characterized. On
the basis of various mineralogic, petrologic, and sedimentologic factors
it is concluded that the layers were of an original volcanic origin.
