A millimeter-wave radiometer has been developed for radio-astronomical applications; the wideband detecting element is a Josephson superconducting point contact. This paper presents a block diagram of the radiometer, considers its design, and gives its experimental characteristics. Particular attention is given to the electrical properties of the point contact, and the effect of thermal emission of the modulator on detector characteristics is investigated.
