Results of observations of the continuum flux at lambda equal to 1.2 mm of a normal galaxy sample selected from the IRAS (Infrared Astronomy Satellite) point source catalog are reviewed. Nine galaxies out of twelve observed with the IRAM 30 m telescope are detected at better than 3 sigma. The mm fluxes, together with IRAS 100 micron data, are consistent with a dust temperature of approximately 20 K and a dust opacity spectral index of approximately 2. Masses of dust and gas are estimated from these observations following various models of interstellar dust emission.
