The Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) will survey the entire sky at the mid-infrared 3.3/4.7/12/23 micron bands. It will observe the north and south ecliptic poles (NEP/SEP) on nearly every orbit, making these continuous viewing zones ideal calibration fields for both absolute and relative measurements. WISE will be absolutely calibrated on the same basis as that established for the Spitzer IRAC and MIPS instruments. Accordingly, the WISE team, in collaboration with the Spitzer Science Center, have made sure that a 0.6 square degree survey is available for both ecliptic poles using IRAC and MIPS mapping, as well as IRS spectroscopy of either previously identified calibrator stars. These observations are used to (i) provide consistent calibrators in both of the WISE CVZs, (ii) develop new calibrators in the SEP, (iii) establish the photospheric character of all candidate calibrators, (iv) assess the long-term stability for secondary IRAC standards, (v) identify objects that will saturate the WISE arrays, and (vi) identify galaxies that are resolved by IRAC.
Here we present the full complement of results for the NEP, including mosaics, source counts, and spectra of calibrator stars and the calibrator galaxy NGC 6552.
