The present paper describes the cryogenic equipment developed to check the radiometric performances of IASI instrument during the thermal vacuum test of MetOp PLM FM2 which took place at ESTEC in the Large Space Simulator in February 2003. This cryogenic equipment uses a gaseous helium closed loop cycle instead of liquid helium to perform an operational temperature around 30K under 20W thermal load. The design of this dedicated solution has been based on the development of a first cryogenic panel operated for the IASI needs in Alcatel Space. Some significant modifications have been necessary in order to cope with the S/C test configuration constraints : development and integration of two 90K blackbodies targets in front of the two IASI deep space calibration, increase of the active surface temperature from 20K to 40K, design of transfer lines and mechanical interfaces compliant with MetOp requirements. The performances obtained confirm that this solution is fully compliant with cryogenic application at low operational cost.
