This article describes some possibilities of rock identification on the surface of Mars with penetrators. It is supposed to produce a complex of experiments to estimate chemical composition and physical properties of rocks. The selected complex of measuring characteristics is based on explorations of terrestrial magmatic rocks of various composition and age. The described method of separation and identification of magmatic rocks is based on modifications of factor analysis. The authors explored informativity of a number of petrochemical and petrophysical characteristics, probabilities of magmatic rocks' separation with different characteristics and a whole complex. The results of field investigations in Northern Kazakhstan with a part of the penetrator's equipment satisfy the previously estimated permissible errors of measurements.
