A model of the mass distribution in galaxies is proposed with similar coaxial spheroids as equidensity surfaces. The integral equation relating the spatial density to the circular velocity is transformed to a form that guarantees fairly rapid convergence of successive approximations. For whatever method is used to solve the problem, a function obtained from observations is differentiated. The proposed method can be applied to nondifferentiable functions and uses a priori assumptions about the smoothness of the exact solution. The method was implemented on a computer, tested on theoretical examples, and applied to the calculation of the mass distribution in M31.
