Large-area cameras with a field of vision of 30-45 deg were used to record the spatial structure of gas-dust cloud formations. The exposure time was prescribed by a controlling device in cycles of exposures from 0.5 to 7 sec, with intervals between exposures of 0.5 to 3 sec. Motion-picture cameras without image intensifiers allowed cloud recording of 0.1 sec time resolution. To determine the spatial coordinates of man-made clouds, two or more points tens of kilometers apart were photographed simultaneously. The spatial coordinates of clouds were determined from the positions of clouds with respect to stars whose coordinates were known. The standard deviation of the positions was 0.4-0.6 km. The behavior of man-made dust clouds in the upper atmosphere was found to differ from that of gas clouds. Specifically, particles of different sizes decelerate to different degrees. The radiation field of artificial dust clouds has a more inhomogeneous structure as compared to gas clouds.
